In the world of CV, everything is in ruins and you're surround by the gaol of mist, which leads me to believe the possibility of CV being set within that uninhabitable place. I can't recall if it's mentioned in the first or second godeater game, but north america is considered a destroyed and uninhabitable continent. This leads me to believe things could have changed in the meantime, or they felt the color of the moon wasn't really that big of a deal when developing the game.

Considering most characters can barely remember who they once were, that leads me to believe it has been a very long time.
